Head Counselor

The Head Counselor is an appointed position selected by the Camp Director.  The Head Counselor works closely with the Camp Director in setting the tone for excellence in work and in creating an enthusiastic and enjoyable workplace for the camp. The Head Counselor assists the Camp Director in all coordination operations regarding counselor and CIT staffing prior to, during and immediately after camp closes. The Head Counselor handles various duties for the Camp Director including assembly duties, camper choosing facilitation, staff meeting facilitator, and other duties relative to counseling staff as assigned.

Duties also include overview of staff attendance, tracking and reporting attendance of CITs, Counselors, Artists and staff to the Business Manager for payroll.  The Head Counselor works closely with the Business Manager in the management of budget controls regarding counselor payroll.

The Head Counselor oversees all counselor activities and conducts and makes adjustments where available and needed.  The Head Counselor assists camp staff in the training and orientation of all CIT and Counselor positions and is responsible for seeing that all paid and volunteer counselors/CITs are trained in all aspects of their positions and are capable of meeting work expectations.

The Head Counselor oversees the distribution and collection of Counselor and CIT evaluations and makes recommendations for appropriate placement based on personal interaction and observation of counselor/CIT work as well as evaluation scores. Evaluations are based on work ethic, demeanor, enthusiasm and participation in camp ethos and activity.

The Head Counselor is in camp before, during and often, after camp.  The Head Counselor oversees set up and takedown for the camp, as well as oversees weekly Monday morning orientation and Friday evening task checklists, assigning work as needed for timely completion.  $12.00 per hour.

Head Recess and Security Staff Counselor

In addition to roles outlined for Assistant Recess and Security Counselors, the Head Recess and Security Staff Counselor is responsible for making sure the campus is secured and safe prior to the arrival of campers each morning.  This includes ensuring the campus is free of disturbances, nuisances, or hazardous materials, etc.

He or she is responsible for camper safety as they depart by serving as an added checkpoint at Murdock Hall to ensure that every child is correctly signed out and that no child leaves without a pre-authorized adult.

The Head Recess and Security Staff Counselor also ensures that the campus buildings and grounds are secured at the end of camp each day.

The Head Recess and Security Staff Counselor and the Recess/Security team is responsible for all daily set-up and take-down activities in preparation for camp and after camp, and other specifically assigned tasks, including primary support for assisting camp leadership in the set up and take down of camp at the end of the week.

The Head Recess and Security Staff Counselor is also responsible for obtaining any special lunches for campers, special guests and/or staff, serves as needed for janitorial work, and delegates, where needed, color counselors for added recess duties and security. The Head Recess and Security Staff Counselor is in camp before, during each day and after camp. $14.00 per hour.
