Senior Counselors: Age 18+

Senior Counselors have usually worked at a camp for several years, are very well trained, and have excelled in areas most desired by The Great thou Art Camp for its Counselors:  exceptional attitude, hardworking, patient, fun-loving, polite, diplomatic, team player, supportive to the camp and its staff, professional approach to working with parents and children and a love of children and the arts.

Senior Counselors are often paired with less experienced counselors to assist with their training.

All Senior Counselors are required to attend a general orientation as specified prior to beginning work at The Great thou Art Camp or other The Great thou Art Camp and class events. Orientation is paid at $9.25 per hour.

Position pays $10.00 per hour.   [Counselor Applications available May 2nd]

All Senior Counselor assignments are based on expected enrollment and may be subject to change at the discretion of The Great thou Art Camp.

Junior and Senior Counselors may be placed in any of the following roles depending upon experience and need:

 Color Counselor

Color Counselors are assigned to any of the groups at The Great thou Art Camp:  Green Beans Group, (1st Grade),

Blue Herons Group (2nd Grade), Purple Finches (3rd Grade), Red Oaks Group (4th & 5th Grades), and Golden Suns Group (6th & 7th Grades).

During studio time, color counselors assist in an assigned art studio. Both Junior and Senior Counselors serve as Color Counselors.

Studio Counselor

Studio Counselors have particular expertise in one or more artistic areas of interest/media to the extent that they are able to effectively assist an artist implement projects with campers. They often assist the artist in preparation for daily art projects; however, their work is primarily concentrated within normal counselor hours.

Junior and Senior Counselors may serve as Studio Counselors.

Important note:  Color Counselors and Studio Counselors are peers in the camp and may be assigned in one or the other role at different times depending on need and availability of positions.

Assistant Recess and Security Counselors

Assistant Recess and Security Counselors are selected based on their dedication to securing the camp, and keeping it safe, and on their ability to display firm diplomacy with parents, staff, children, guests, and strangers who approach the camp during camp hours.

They are on call during camp hours for changing circumstances which might present hazards to any or all in the camp, for assistance in studios relative to special lifting, temporary repairs, hazard removal, etc.  They provide primary support for camp set up and take down, before and after camp.

They are responsible for arranging an appropriate array of recess activities to meet various demands of the children during recess. These could include but are not limited to rigorous sporting games (e.g. Capture the Flag), less rigorous games (e.g. Statues), jump rope, reading, or simple fun.

The Assistant Recess and Security Counselors also distribute camper snacks appropriate for a variety of dietary needs, keeping vigilance over trace elements that could be harmful to particular campers with severe allergies.  Assistant Recess and Security Counselors work under the guidance of the Head Recess and Security Staff Counselor.  Position pays $10.50.
